History
In March of 2000, the canine in question, a 4 year-old Chocolate Labrador Retriever, was boarded at the kennel of a local veterinarian because his owner had to travel out of town. It was the dog's 1st visit to a kennel because a neighbor usually takes care of the dog when the owner is away.
At the kennel, the dog received a nose spray kennel cough vaccine. When the owner returned, office staff at the kennel explained that the dog cried, barked, and howled apparently from emotional upset.
After the dog was taken home, and 5 days after receiving the vaccine the animal began to develop the following symptoms: retching, gagging, vomiting, and coughing almost incessantly.
The owner contacted a homeopathic veterinarian who recommended using Slippery Elm tincture to support the dogs respiratory system. Slippery Elm drops were administered orally several times a day.
The owner, a practitioner of Integrative Manual TherapyTM, performed Neurofascial Process to the lungs and the ureters for a total of 3 hours over the course of 2 days. 1
Results
After receiving treatment via Integrative Manual TherapyTM (Neurofascial Process) and functional medicine (slippery elm tincture) the animal was symptom free within 48 hours. The local veterinarian confirmed that kennel cough usually runs its course in 7 to 10 days.
Conclusion
In this particular case, it appears that Integrative Manual TherapyTM and functional medicine intervention facilitated the alleviation and elimination of symptoms from a vaccine induced viral infection within a time frame that was 5 to 8 days faster than normal.
